Can my chip be repaired?
Usually, if it is smaller than a 20-cent coin and not in front of the driver. A repair takes about 30 minutes, restores the glass strength and stops the crack spreading. Once a crack passes roughly 15 cm or reaches the edge, the windscreen has to be replaced.
How long will it take?
60–90 minutes for a car windscreen on site, plus 30–60 minutes if your vehicle needs ADAS camera calibration. Safe drive-away time after fitting is typically one hour.
Will insurance cover it?
Most comprehensive policies do, often with a reduced or waived excess on a chip repair. We work with every insurer and handle the paperwork with you. Bring your policy number to the call.
What will it cost?
It depends on the glass, not the postcode. Sensors, heating, tint and ADAS cameras change the price. Tell us your make, model and year on the phone and you get a firm number, not a range.

Who does the work
An eight-strong team of fitters
Express Auto Glass has been cutting out and bonding automotive glass in South East Queensland since 2005. Warren owns the business and still fits glass himself; behind him is a team of eight technicians running out of Yamanto. Whoever quotes your job is one of the eight who turns up and does it — there is no call centre and no subcontractor.
Between them the team has twenty years across cars, 4WDs, prime movers, classic and collector vehicles and commercial fleets, which means the awkward jobs are routine: split two-piece truck screens, rubber-set screens on a restoration, glass cut to pattern for an older imported cab. ADAS camera calibration is done in-house on the same visit, so a late-model car leaves with its lane keeping and emergency braking reading the road properly.

Can a windscreen chip be repaired instead of replaced?
Yes — if the chip is smaller than a 20-cent coin and sits outside the driver's direct line of sight, it can usually be repaired in about 30 minutes. The resin restores the strength of the glass and stops the damage spreading. Once a crack runs longer than roughly 15 cm, or reaches the edge of the windscreen, replacement is the only safe option.
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
About 60 to 90 minutes on site for a car windscreen, plus another 30 to 60 minutes if your vehicle needs ADAS camera calibration. Safe drive-away time after fitting is typically one hour, and we always tell you the exact figure before we leave.
Do you actually come to me?
Yes. Express Auto Glass is a fully mobile service — we fit windscreens at your home, workplace, depot or the roadside anywhere across Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Bayside, and there is no extra call-out charge for coming to you.
Is a cracked windscreen illegal in Queensland?
It can be. A windscreen fails a Queensland roadworthy inspection if the damage sits in the driver's critical viewing area, if a crack is longer than 150 mm, or if chips are larger than 16 mm. Damaged glass also weakens the structure of the car in a rollover and can complicate an insurance claim after an accident.
Will my insurance cover the windscreen?
Most comprehensive policies cover windscreen repair or replacement, and many waive or reduce the excess for a chip repair specifically. We work with every insurer — have your policy number handy when you call and we will walk through it with you.
What is ADAS calibration and does my car need it?
ADAS calibration re-aims the forward-facing camera mounted on the windscreen that drives lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Any vehicle fitted with those systems needs calibration after a windscreen replacement, otherwise the car can misread its position on the road.
How much does a windscreen replacement cost in Brisbane?
The price depends on the vehicle and the glass specification — sensors, heating elements, acoustic laminate, tint bands and ADAS cameras all change the number. Chip repairs are by far the cheapest option and are often free under comprehensive insurance. Call 0451 180 046 with your make, model and year and you will get a firm quote, not a range.
Do you replace truck, bus and motorhome windscreens?
Yes. We source and fit glass for trucks, buses, coaches, motorhomes, campervans and heavy commercial vehicles, and we attend depots and yards so fleets lose as little running time as possible.
Can I claim on a chip repair without losing my no-claim bonus?
In most comprehensive policies a windscreen claim does not affect your no-claim bonus, and some policies include one free chip repair per year. Policies differ, so check your PDS or call us and we will help you read it.
