Living in the trees

Backing onto conservation forest is lovely and hard on a windscreen. Branch strike, sap, bird mess and wildlife at dusk are all more common here than in an open suburb — and they cause different damage to a stone chip.

Talk it through with a technician
  • Branch strike cracks, not chips

A branch usually leaves a crack rather than a neat break, and a crack in the sweep means replacement.

  • Sap and scratching

Sap cleans off; scrubbing at it dry does not. Fine scratches through the wiper sweep are permanent.

  • Sloped driveways

Daisy Hill is hilly. We chock and work across the fall, or use the flat out front.

Daisy Hill FAQs

What locals ask

General questions on the full FAQ page.

A branch came down on the windscreen. Is it repairable?

Often not, unfortunately. Branch strike tends to produce a crack rather than the neat conical break a stone makes, and any crack longer than about 15 cm or sitting in the driver's line of sight means replacement. Send us a photo and we will tell you which side of the line it falls on.

How do I get sap off without damaging the glass?

Soften it first — warm water and time, or a proper glass-safe solvent — rather than attacking it dry with anything abrasive. Scrubbing baked sap off with a scourer leaves fine scratches through the wiper sweep that catch oncoming headlights permanently.

My driveway is steep. Is that an issue?

Rarely. The technician chocks the wheels and works across the fall. Where the slope is severe we will ask you to move the car onto the flat part of the street. Mention it when booking so we arrive prepared.
