How long do I have before a chip becomes a crack?

There is no fixed answer, but on motorway commuters we routinely see it happen inside a fortnight. Suburban-only cars can carry a chip for months. The trigger is usually a cold morning with the demister on, a pothole, or a stretch of rough surface at speed — all of which the M1 provides.

Do you need the driveway, or is the street fine?

How much notice do you need?
